Survey report unveils near-universal experience of abuse among nurses

This year, the Canadian Federation of Nurses Unions (CFNU) released a survey report unveiling the realities of nurses’ working conditions.
Among the results, it found that 95 per cent of the 4,700 respondents had experienced violence or harassment, but only 46 per cent indicated that they reported these incidents. While nurses provide care and comfort, the report has made it clear that they don’t feel safe while doing so.
“We knew violence was a big issue,” says Linda Silas, national president for the CFNU.
She explains that since their first campaign to highlight these workplace issues in 1990, the issues kept persisting and are now getting worse.
