Ontario Medical Association announces new CEO

The Ontario Medical Association today announced the appointment of Tom Magyarody as chief executive officer effective Aug. 31. Mr. Magyarody brings more than 20 years of effective health care leadership to his new position having served as CEO and Executive Director of the Ontario Dental Association, and previously as Executive Director, Corporate Affairs and Administration at the OMA.

"The OMA welcomes Mr. Magyarody's expertise and strong leadership back to the organization," said OMA President, Dr. Mike Toth. "Mr. Magyarody comes to our association during a challenging time for patients, physicians and health care in this province. We are confident that his results-oriented mentality, strategic focus and vast experience will serve the organization well in helping to overcome any of the challenges that lie ahead."

"Ontario's doctors are the lynchpin of our health care system," said Mr. Magyarody. "They are committed and inspiring guardians of our care and our system - I am both excited and privileged to be a part of the important work that is to come."

Mr. Magyarody has an ICD.D Diploma in Governance from the Rotman School of Management, a Master of Business Administration and a Bachelor of Engineering and Management from McMaster University.

He replaces Mr. Ron Sapsford who retired from the organization in the spring after four years at the helm.

The Ontario Medical Association (OMA) represents over 34,000 physicians and medical students across the province. Ontario's doctors work closely with patients to encourage healthy living practices and illness prevention. In addition to delivering front-line services to patients, Ontario's doctors play a significant role in helping shape health care policy, as well as implementing initiatives that strengthen and enhance Ontario's health care system.
