U of T Nursing is third best in the world; U of T is top Canadian university for 31 subjects

University of Toronto places in top 50 globally in 37 subjects in QS Rankings

U of T also placed in the top 10 globally for geography, which is taught at all three U of T campuses. Overall, the university was among the top 20 universities in the world in 19 subjects and in the top 50 in 37 of the 41 subjects analyzed by QS.The University of Toronto’s Lawrence S. Bloomberg Faculty of Nursing is the third best nursing school in the world, according to the QS World University Rankings by Subject, released March 22.

“It is an honour to be ranked third in the world by QS,” says Bloomberg Nursing Dean Linda Johnston. “Our faculty, staff and students are dedicated to life-changing research, teaching excellence and student support. This ranking is affirmation of the quality of their work and dedication to the profession.”

U of T President Meric Gertler said the QS subject rankings “confirm one of the distinguishing strengths of the University of Toronto: our critical mass of top experts in such a wide array of disciplines. We are among a small handful of institutions around the world whose wide-ranging excellence allows us to address the great global questions of our time.”

QS, which has been ranking universities globally since 2004, began ranking individual subjects in 2011. The rankings are based on the results of an academic survey, an employer survey, citations per faculty and an index based on scholarly publication productivity and impact.

This the first year that nursing has been included as a subject. U of T also did well in another of the new subjects introduced this year – anthropology – placing 12th in the world.
