Redefining our Hospital - Michael Garron Hospital’s new brand

Michael Garron Hospital’s new brand was launched on January 12, 2017 at a special celebration of the hospital’s 88th birthday recognizing our many years as east Toronto’s community hospital and our legacy of always adapting to the changing needs of the population we serve.

The day was also a celebration of a new defining moment in the hospital's history - the unveiling of the new vision, mission, logo and brand as the Michael Garron Hospital.

It’s been just over a year since we received the incredible $50M gift from the Garron family, the largest of its kind to a Canadian community hospital. With this gift and the completion of our last strategic plan, came the opportunity to update our logo, colours and brand.

We used this opportunity to reconnect with our many and varied stakeholders to take pulse of how best to describe ourselves. During the process we spoke to and engaged hundreds of people both inside and outside the hospital walls - patients, caregivers, community members, staff, physicians, volunteers, donors, partners, learners and health system experts. What we heard was remarkably consistent:

  1. The number one word identified with us is “community”.  We must celebrate and build on our rich history and pay homage to our “community spirit”.
  2. We also heard that we need to modernize a little – a task that will be accomplished when we open our new building on Sammon Ave.
  3. Finally, we need to help improve the lives of those in our community, not just treat their illnesses, by working outside our walls and with our partners to improve their economic and social conditions.

Michael Garron Hospital will continue its role as an anchor in east Toronto guided by a renewed vision that describes our ultimate purpose - Create Health. Build Community. It’s simple, yet powerful. It’s our ‘why’ and what motivates us. Creating health symbolizes our commitment to helping people live to their full potential – mentally, spiritually, physically and socially.

A healthy community is a strong community. Through “creating health” we will foster a strong community with our partners. Both are inextricably linked and, in fact, define our new corporate mission:  “Our community inspires us to deliver exemplary care, develop innovative partnerships and mentor the next generation of health care providers. Together we will make a difference and change the face of health in east Toronto and beyond.”

The new vision and mission are visually represented by our new logo and colours, which show the hospital reflected onto the community reflected on us, representing the idea of working together to create something new.

The logo’s fresh, modern look is symbolic of renewal, growth and rebirth. This revitalized brand will create a strong foundation for Michael Garron Hospital to build health and create community – on its own and as part of the Toronto East Health Network.
