Artificial Intelligence (AI)–Assisted Technology
Artificial Intelligence (AI)–Assisted Technology
Adapted fromRecommendations for the Conduct, Reporting, Editing, and Publication of Scholarly Work in Medical Journals (www.icmje.org).
Authors must disclose whether they used artificial intelligence (AI)-assisted technologies in the production of their submitted work. Authors who use AI-assisted technology should describe, in the cover letter and submitted work, how they used it.
AI and AI-assisted tools will not be credited as authors because they cannot be responsible for the accuracy, integrity, and originality of the work, and these responsibilities are required for authorship. Humans are responsible for any submitted material that included the use of AI-assisted technologies. Each author should carefully review and edit the result because AI can generate authoritative-sounding output that can be incorrect, incomplete, or biased. Authors should also be able to assert there is no plagiarism within the text or images produced by AI; and that all material is properly attributed and cited.
Authors who have used AI or AI-assisted tools must include a statement on the title page of the published manuscript indicating that AI was used, which tool was used and the reason for using the tool.
