Richard (Rick) I. Skinner, Chief Information and Technology Officer, University of Virginia Health System
Rick has over 25 years’ experience in healthcare information systems, including positions as CIO for US health systems, the Ontario health system, Cancer Care Ontario, a medical research laboratory, and independent consulting and project management for the development and implementation of the US Department of Defense’s global medical information system.
He is an author and frequent speaker on healthcare information technology, as well as a leader in Canadian and US national organizations such as Canada’s Health Informatics Executive Forum, the College for Healthcare Information Management Executives and the Certification Commission for Healthcare Information Technology. In 1994 he received the Healthcare Information Executives Forum Crystal Award for Excellence and in 2002, the HIMSS John Gall Award for Healthcare CIO of the Year.
Presentation Topic: Analytics — A decision making tool for hospitals
Analytics in hospitals is rapidly moving from simple retrospective reporting to the science of putting actionable information in the hands of leaders to enable better, more evidence based, decision making. In this session we’ll explore the current analytics environment in hospitals, the challenges ahead and the rewards for meeting those challenges, as exemplified by an academic medical center in the US, the University of Virginia Health System.
