Abstract
The vision of the Canadian Council on Health Services Accreditation (CCHSA) is to be "the leader in raising the bar for quality health," and the mission is "driving quality in health services through accreditation." Given this commitment, the accreditation program is once again undergoing a significant transformation.
Building on the strengths of the Achieving Improved Measurement (AIM) program, a number of factors have contributed to the January 2005 board members' decision to conduct a comprehensive review and redesign of the national accreditation program for healthcare. This article outlines the rationale for the changes, objectives, key enhancements, the development process, the critical path and the key messages.
