[This paper is a commentary on Healing and the Healthcare Village: Beyond the Mega-Hospital to a New Model of Health Design by Sean Stanwick and Tye S. Farrow.]

A healthy hospital seeks to create a healing environment for patients and workplace for staff. A healthpromoting hospital looks out to the wider environment and community, seeking to reduce its ecological footprint (Germain 2002) and to become a partner in the process of creating a healthier community.
