Riding the Third Rail: The Story of Ontario's Health Services Restructuring Commission, 1996-2000

Gail J. Donner

Abstract

[By Duncan Sinclair, Mark Rochon and Peggy Leatt]

I looked forward to the publication of this book for a number of reasons. First, I was a member of the Metropolitan Toronto District Health Council Hospital Restructuring Committee, which was a forerunner of the Ontario Health Services Restructuring Commission, the focus of this book; secondly, as a politics/policy student (and sometime teacher), I love a good "behind the scenes" look at a complex policy issue; and thirdly, the book is written by three well-known and well-respected leaders in healthcare and health services, and I knew this would make for a good read and good learning. The wait was well worth it; my expectations were met, and then some.
