As a non-clinician, sometimes still practising health economist and former CEO of two large national health not-for-profits, I was very interested in Judith Shamian's paper on the emergence of a "new breed" of clinician executive. Certainly, she is dead right in encouraging more accomplished nurses, physicians and others to take on the increasingly complex challenges of health leadership in Canada.
