Yoni Freedhoff, a family doctor who specializes in obesity says that “statistically speaking, 3% of Ontarians meet the criteria for bariatric surgery” and notes that “even if only 5% of them want the surgery, that’s still 18,000 cases per year”. Ontario’s Bariatric Services Strategy was given $75 million, and committed to performing 2,085 surgeries per year in Ontario by 2011. Read more here.
